« Metal over Malta Festival is the biggest curated metal festival held on the beautiful island of Malta. The venue, Chateau Buskett in Buskett forest, is tucked away in the island’s oldest wooded area, & provides a great atmosphere for people to enjoy 2 days of metal music in good company. Buskett is next to the village of Dingli, limits of Rabat. The festival is hosted by Weeping Silence The first edition (2015) saw Draconian headlining with other established bands such as Weeping Silence, Helevorn, Daylight Misery & Doomas also on the bill, in addition to smaller bands. The second edition (2016) saw the festival grow further, with Septicflesh headlining, as well as The Foreshadowing, Thurisaz, Shores of Null & others. MALTA Malta is an archipelago, with the main island being Malta. The second largest inhabited island is Gozo. The capital city, Valletta, is located on the island of Malta. Malta is a European country, & uses the Euro currency. The country has a long history that dates back to 5000B.C. It had a thriving megalithic culture, & was later settled on, or occupied, by the Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Knights of St John, French & the British Empire until its Independence in 1964. Metal over Malta is a peaceful & unifying event. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this relaxed atmosphere, although admittance is for 17+ years only. ORPHANED LAND (Century Media Records) Orphaned Land was formed in 1991 under the moniker “Resurrection”. In 1992, after a period of research & self-realization, the band decided to changed its name to “Orphaned Land”. In 1993, after self releasing their debut demo “The Beloved’s Cry”, the band was signed by “Holy Records”. Their first album, “Sahara”, released in 1994, followed by their 1996 “El Norra Alila”, set the stage for Orphaned Land’s unique sound. Their albums were widely covered in the press. Following the success of their first 2 albums, Orphaned Land got several offers from major labels, & finally signed with Century Media in 1997. “Mabool” set Orphaned Land in the front of the middle-eastern & worldwide metal scene as the flagship band of Israel, as the band toured 4 continents in almost 30 countries, including being the first ever Israeli band in world-known festivals such as Wacken Open-Air, Summer-Breeze, Hellfest & ProgPower. In 2010, Orphaned Land released the follow-up to Mabool, entitled The Never Ending Way of ORWarriOR. The album has a different sound than Mabool, & was mixed by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, ORWarriOR was rated the Metal Storm number one progressive metal album of 2010. In 2008, Orphaned Land featured in the documentary Global Metal, a film by the creators of Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey. In 2010, Orphaned Land performed as the opening act to Metallica’s Israel show. Following this, the band went on a summer festival tour, promoting their latest album, The Never Ending Way of ORWarriOR, with appearances at Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze Open Air, Sonisphere Fest, Gods of Metal, Rock Hard Fest & more. In 2012 there was an online petition for Orphaned Land to be awarded a Nobel Prize. Orphaned Land’s fifth album, All is One, was released in 2013. Despite its optimistic title, the band considers it their darkest album thematically, albeit musically their most accessible. Orphaned Land also won Metal Hammer award for « Global Metal Band of the Year 2014 » (Adapted from Orphaned Land website & fb, 2016) CIVIL WAR (Napalm Records) Civil War is a power metal band from Sweden formed in 2012 by several former members of Sabaton & Astral Doors vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson. Initially signed to Despotz Records, the band released a self-titled EP in 2012, & then immediately began working on their full length debut album. The Killer Angels was released in 2013, & reached the Gold status in Sweden. At the same time, the band began playing live shows at various festivals in Sweden, & went on their first tour of Europe in February 2014. The band then signed a deal with Napalm Records & began working on their sophomore album, Gods & Generals, which was released in 2015. The Album was recorded & mixed by none other than Peter Tägtgren (Abyss Studios). The Last Full Measure is the latest album of Civil War, released in 2016. Johansson: « After ‘The Killer Angels’ & ‘Gods & Generals’, we are extremely proud & can’t wait to share the last part of the trilogy! This is our best work so far, at least this is what we think, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! » Civil War has already toured all over Europe & played at some of Europe’s finest & biggest festivals.
WEEPING SILENCE (Massacre Records) Festival hosts Weeping Silence play a blend of male & female fronted Gothic-Doom Metal. Formed in ‘98, the band produced four studio albums. In 2013 Weeping Silence was nominated for ‘Best Heavy Metal Band’ award in the Malta Music Awards (MMAs), & won the ‘Best Band of the Year 2012’ in the Female Metal Webzine awards. Their third album ‘For the Unsung’ features Anders Jacobsson of Draconian as guest vocalist. The latest album ‘Opus IV Oblivion‘, released with Massacre Recs, brings together the best that Weeping Silence has to offer. Heavy, melodic, dark & full of ambience with doom-laden riffs. It has been listed in Top 20 Best-of Albums of 2015 in several webzines, including Metal Storm’s Top 10 Awards, with an array of great reviews & press-clips in mags such as Metal Hammer, Legacy & Orkus. Over the years Weeping Silence appeared on-stage at numerous festivals & concerts, including UK dates with To-Mera (2010), the Malta Doom Metal Fest (2009, 2013), Benelux tour including Respect for Metal supporting Therion (2013), Metaldays (2014, 2016), Metal over Malta Fest (2015, 2016), The Dames of Darkness Fest (2014), tour in France, Belgium & The NetherLands with Thurisaz (2016), Gothoom Open Air Fest (2016), Romaobscura Fest (2016), Italy tour with Doom legends Ahab (2016), countless local shows including support for Cadaveria (2016) & Moonspell (2016). In 2017 Weeping Silence is booked for shows in Belgium, Doom over Gorinchem Fest (NL), Metal over Malta (MT), & FemMe Fest (NL), with many more being planned as far as 2018. SAILLE (Code666 Records/Aural Music) Saille is a Belgian black metal band, formed in 2009 by Dries Gaerdelen. Saille consistently incorporates real classical instruments (e.g. cello, violin, cornet, trumpet) into their compositions, as well as strong influences from black metal. Their songs include both black screams & death growls, with every now & then even clean vocals. Lyrically Saille handles ‘the fearful, the uncanny & the weird’. Saille has released three studio albums so far: ‘Irreversible Decay’; ‘Ritu’; & ‘Eldritch’, all on Code666 Records. Through the years Saille played many tours & festivals including Graspop Metal Meeting, Sonisphere Fest, Summer Breeze Fest & Bloodstock Open Air. POEM (ViciSolum Productions) Poem is four-piece progressive rock/metal band from Greece formed in 2006. In 2008 Poem recorded the debut album “The Great Secret Show”, which Metal Hammer Greece characterized as, “The best Greek debut album since ’00s & one of the 10 best albums of the Greek metal scene ever released”. Both progressive & alternative, the potential is best reflected in their live performances. Chosen to open the concerts for huge artists & bands, such as Ozzy Osbourne, Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Paradise Lost, Burst, Mekong Delta, Cilice, Leprous, among others, & also to participate in countless live gigs in Greece & in other European countries, Poem became one of the best metal live acts. Poem also played alongside Amorphis on their « Under the red cloud European tour », as well as with, Textures & Omnium Gatherum at 38 cities. In 2016 Poem signed with the Swedish label “ViciSolum Productions” & we released “Skein Syndrome”.
ABYSMAL TORMENT (Willowtip Records) Active since 2000 with countless shows in more than 20 countries around the globe, Abysmal Torment have been spreading their music & pummelling all horizons. As a six piece band Abysmal Torment bring a whole new level of experience to each & ever show. Musically, Abysmal Torment relies on speed stimulated tempos, breakdowns, technical riffing & a dual assault of varying vocals. A glance at the lyrical content illustrates that there is no ordinary mentality at work here & the knowledgeable treatment of the subject matters add more depth to the Abysmal Torment mix. With 4 releases under their belt Abysmal Torment are currently working on their 5th studio release to be released in 2017 under Willowtip Records. « Musically this is a massacre, as foreseen.” FORSAKEN (Metal on Metal Records) Forsaken were formed in 1990 & released their debut demo « Requiem » toward the end of that same year. In 1993 the band signed to Arkham Productions for the release of a 7″ Ep « Virtues of Sanctity ». In 2002 the band signed to Golden Lake Prods for the long-awaited « Iconoclast » Ep. Forsaken’s second full-length album « Anima Mundi » was issued in 2004 to widespread critical acclaim & is the band’s best-selling release to-date. During the summer of 2006 the band relocated to Temple Studios for the recording of their third full-length & most widely acclaimed full-length album to date -“Dominaeon”. The band’s most recent album titled “After the Fall” was released in 2009 on I Hate Records & gathered strong reactions worldwide. This was followed up with the release of a 12” Split EP with Finland’s Fall of the Idols (on vinyl only). Forsaken are presently working on a new album (the band’s fifth full-length) titled “Pentateuch”, which focuses on a thematic lyrical concept based on the first five books of the Old Testament & musically sees the band exploring epic doom metal pastures to new heights. Forsaken have built a strong reputation as a powerful & emotionally charged live doom act. Apart from countless local gigs & their mini-European tour in 1994, the band played in various reputable heavy metal festivals all over Europe including Doom Shall Rise Fest (2003, 2007), the Headbangers Open Air Fest VII ( 2004), Keep it True V (2005), Elements of Rock Fest (2007), Dutch Doom Days Fest (2007), Doom Metal Inquisition (2008), Cross Music Metalfest (2008), Day of Doom (2008), Brainstorm Fest (2009), Hammer of Doom Fest (2011), Neuborn Open Air Fest (2012), Play it Doom Fest (2015), Dordrecht Doom Day (2015), SpringDoom Depression Fest (2016). Forsaken also supported Angel Witch in Malta in 2014 & appeared in five editions of MDM (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014). ANIMAMORTUA Animamortua is a Maltese band influenced by thrash, power metal & speed metal. Formed in 2015 by ex-Relicuia members, they rounded out their first line-up with Steve Azzopardi on bass, began to write material & quickly found their own style where incorporating melody in the guitars & powerful vocals. Between October & November of the same year they recorded their 3 track EP. By the end of 2015, the band assumed a stable line-up, which saw the addition of guitarist Emanuel Portelli from Victims of Creation. The band is currently working hard to finish their debut album, which is targeted for release in 2017.
LOCH VOSTOCK (ViciSolum Productions) Loch Vostok was formed in 2001 by drummer Teddy Möller out of the ashes of his previous progressive metal band Mayadome. Loch Vostok set out to record a self-financed album with producer Daniel Bergstrand in 2002. The result was Dark Logic. CD-maximum were the first to pick up the album & shortly after Magnetism Recs released it worldwide in 2004. With the album, Destruction Time Again! out on Escapi Music, they hit the road supporting King Diamond in the Scandinavian leg of his European 2006 tour. With the album being well received Loch Vostok set out to do more gigs with, among others, Grave & Rotting Christ, as well as playing the 5-year anniversary of Headway Festival. In 2007 work began on the recordings of the follow-up album, Reveal No Secrets, which was released in 2009. The band then signed a three-album deal with Vicisolum Productions & released critically acclaimed Dystopium, which was shortly followed by a tour with Therion & Leprous. A year later, the fifth album, V – The Doctrine Decoded, was announced & furthermore released in 2012.This led to the European Progressive Assault tour with Leprous, Persefone & Ørkenkjøtt: Loch Vostok’s seventh album “Strife” will be recorded at Frontporch Productions & will be mixed/mastered by David Castillo (Katatonia, Dark Tranquility, Sepultura). Release date is set around April/May 2017. DIMLIGHT (Sliptrick Records) Dimlight’s music can be characterized as Symphonic Death Metal blended with dark symphonic elements, aggressive guitars, sharp female vocals but also deep & eerie brutal shouts. Dimlight enjoys live performances & their dynamic & energetic stage presence engages the audience. Although the band was formed in 2006 it was almost three years later until they released their first full length album called “Obtenebration” under the label Emotion Art Ltd. Around mid-2010, Dimlight started working on new material & in 2012 released their second studio album ‘Psychosynthesis”. Among the guests of the album were Seth Siro Anton (SepticFlesh), Ilianna Tsakiraki (Enemy of Reality, ex-Meden Agan) & Stelios Mavromitis (ex-Astrate , ex-SepticFlesh). The band’s success brought on an invitation to the Metal Female Voices Festival (MFVF) on its tenth anniversary in 2012 In 2015 the band established collaboration with Sliptrick Records & released their third album “The Lost Chapters”. The album is mixed & mastered by John Mcris. Among the guests of the album are Jean Baptiste (Randomwalk), Maya (Meden Agan), Maria-Melissanthi Routi (Kinetic), & Alfred Shtuni. Dimlight have toured extensively in Europe & shared the stage with Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Epica, Septic Flesh, Rotting Christ, Firewind, The Haunted, Delain, Xandria, Vision of Atlantis, Leaves Eyes, Sirenia, Annihilator & many more.
PREACH Preach is a testament to why Swedish metal is held in such high regard throughout the world. With their straight forward riffs, melodic hooks & in-your-face vocals they deliver metal as it’s supposed to be. Hard, heavy & passionate! With their 2015 album, “Gasoline Veins”, they have further cemented that description in the minds of metal-heads everywhere. “Gasoline Veins” was recorded during 2013-2014 with long-time collaborator, Oscar Ammer at Echobox Studios & has been mastered at Cutting Room Studios by Mats “Limpan” Lindfors (Meshuggah, Katatonia, Scorpions). The album has received positive reviews from magazines & webzines from Sweden, Mexico, Italy & Germany among others Preach has always been known as a solid live performance act & they have done several tours & festivals over the years in countries such as Finland, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine & Russia. This energetic & relentless live presence has also resulted in supporting slots for major bands such as Sodom, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hate & Hatebreed. DESECRATE (Mephisto Rec) Born in 1995 Desecrate immediately became protagonists in the Italian underground scene. After the recording of the first promo album, in 1998 the very first discographic contract was landed with Mephisto Recs, which published the first full length “MOONSHINY TALES (THE TORMENT & THE RAPTURE). The record obtained excellent reviews & allowed the Italian combo to exhibit themselves in all the best clubs all over the National territory. Eventually the band released a new album “XIII THE DEATH” published by the Finnish INVERSE Recs. Desecrate present again themselves to the public in a new garment, though remaining faithful to their sound: European matrix death metal, bound fast to the earlier 90’s aggressive & scratching sonority, shows several arrangements innovations which together with the constant use of the piano, contribute to the creation of a very personal sound.

You can choose to either return back to one of the three points above, or directly to your door. The fee varies according to destination. Transport will be by means of a van. If you miss the van you will need to take a taxi at your own expense. Transport is managed by the van-hire provider. The festival per se is not the organiser of the transport.
